But that’s not the only reason they are going. That’s a secret. A momentous one. And once it’s revealed, there’ll be no going back… My review - Mark Lowery’s style of storytelling is simply brilliant and powerful. The story is fast-paced fluidly going back and forth in time. The inclusion of the mental health aspect of the characters and their inner struggles gave the real-life touches to the characters. By the time I reached the end and the BIG secret got revealed, I was left emotional and teary-eyed. A dream dreamed by one person is just a dream. A dream that you can share is a quest. When you are on a quest, every step that takes you nearer to your goal is glorious. Even if you’re stepping through fish guts. If a button is pressed or a lever is pulled in one place, something will happen in a different place. If your friends need you, but you turn away from them, then you will be lost. Impossible things are just a lot of possible things put together in a different order than usual. The rule of #BookBytes posts is to post a quote or a sentence or a passage from a book that tugs at the heart. I broke this rule here in this post by writing several quotes from a children’s book which I happened to like undoubtedly – The Great Rocket Robbery by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. Seriously, do tell me if these simple quotes do not speak to you.

#picturebookreview Book - Ned The Nuclear Submarine Author/Illustrator - Demetri Capetanopoulos Age group - 7+ This is the story of a newly commissioned nuclear submarine, Ned. Ned has to venture out on his first voyage in the ocean for which he is unsure, untested and unprepared. Ned sets off on his maiden adventure. He goes through numerous experiences on his adventure. He sails back to his home base with confidence ready to tell his story to the world. A story of valid fears and challenges, a story hardly believable. Review - Ned’s story and the science involved in the working of a nuclear submarine took repetitive reading to sink in. After a couple of reads, Dhruv and I, both were able to appreciate the beauty of the story of Ned’s maiden voyage. The scientific aspect has been educative and a curiosity builder. #picturebookreview Book - Toto Author/Illustrator - Ximo Abadia Age group - 3 - 100 Could a donkey ever become an astronaut? Toto has bigger plans for his future than to carry bags up and down the mountainside. He longs to become an astronaut and visit the moon… But, a donkey could never do that, could he? My review – I picked up this book on my visit to the city library. This book caught my attention for – 1. its name which is unique and spells out nothing of what’s there inside the pages of the book, and 2. the bright yellow coloured hardcover with a stark blue spine and the book title engraved on it in the same blue colour. I looked into the book and the more enchanted I got with the illustrating style. I felt the choice of character for telling this story of following one’s dreams could not have been more appropriate. Who else would depict as a perfect metaphor for staying stuck in a rut, being destined for it even though he/she is someone who dreams of making it big? Such is the story of Toto which might have been any of ours too. Toto is a bold and inspiring story about following your dreams. The illustrations are simple, clutter-free and eye-catching. They are laid against the background comprising of striking primary colours. The paper quality is quite thick unlike usual books thus adding to the overall reading experience. #picturebookreview Books - (1) Lil's Cupcake Delivery. (2) Milo goes to the seaside. Author - Rachel Jane Illustrator - Jamie Flack Age group - 3 - 7 year old My review – Both the books in the Red Hatch Campers Series are absolutely adorable. They tell the tales of 2 happy go lucky Camper Vans – Lil and Milo in a rhythmic fashion which can be musical to the ears if little sound effects are added. Lil’s story of cupcake delivery is sweet and charming. Milo’s story is adventurous and fun. The illustrations are extremely attractive with bright yet soothing colour schemes. If we could have laid our hands on these books a couple of years earlier when Dhruv was obsessed with vehicles, these books would have been a part of our everyday bedtime reading routine for weeks together. I am completely gushing over them. These books make to my list of all-time favourite picture books for 3 – 7 year olds. My review – Let me just begin with accepting I am not a fan of fantasy or magical realism genre. Thus it took me a long time to finish reading this book and even more time procrastinating over it. I would have put it down midway if I wasn’t required to write a review for it. Thankfully I kept at it because it did get interesting after the midpoint.
