Book Description:

In this heartwarming story, Bob the banana goes on an emotional journey as he worries about going bad before he can be of any use to Mr. Abbot. With the help of his friends, he learns to hold on to the hope that he will get picked by Mr. Abbott before it is too late. Through their combined support and perseverance of his refrigerated friends, Bob may be just the right item for Mr. Abbot someday.

My Review:

Bob the banana goes bad is an amusing story. The book took me to the movie Toy Story where the toys come to life as soon as they are out of the sight of humans. Similarly, in Bob the banana goes bad, there is a city flourishing inside the refrigerator where various food items such as apple, potato, jelly, blueberries, apricot etc are the residents each with their specific alliterating names. For example, Arvid the apple, Patrick the potato, Jerry the jello, April the apricot. Of course there is Bob the banana too – the protagonist. There is even a mayor by the name Bernie the bagel. Alliterations are fun to read.

Bob the banana is the worrier. He worries if Mr. Abott does not pick him fast, he will go bad. The other food items try to pacify him by showing him the better picture that he will never be bad enough to be thrown away because there will be other ways he can be consumed in like in bread, fritters or pudding. Everyone needs friends and sane voices like those to gather oneself together in times of despair. However, Bob the banana is not the one who can overcome his sadness just with words. The story ends on a positive note for Bob, thankfully.

The wordplay is fantastic in the story evoking a lot of laughter. The illustrations are perky and colourful further raising the entertainment quotient of the story.

This book is a must-read for pre-schoolers. I shall be surely gifting this one to the little ones I know.

Meet the Authors:

Author Steve Petzinger

Steve Petzinger first created the concept for Bob the Banana when he was just twelve years old. His mother kept the original version, and over the years, his family urged him to publish it. In 2020, he decided to finally take their advice.

Author Akbar-Hussain

Petzinger sought help from his close friend, Selia Akbar-Hussain, who has been teaching preschool for eight years. She has read hundreds of children’s books and is knowledgeable about children’s books content. After months of hard work, their dreams of publishing a children’s book came true.
